September Plans - v0.6 release and pricing changes

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've posted, and I have some news to share.

Version 0.5

Right off the bat, I'll say that I will be skipping the release of v0.5

I have decided on this because the rework of the Faith mechanic into the Crew aspect and moves and the expansion of aspect shifting ended up requiring some changes to the basic moves of the game, changes that I had initially reserved for version 0.6

Has this not been the case, I probably would have released the v0.5 update this week.

Version 0.6

The good news is that now that I've freed myself to focus on getting all my desired changes out all at once rather than releasing them piecemeal as I initially planned, I can actually get v0.6 out within the month!

Since I'm folding the changes of v0.5 into v0.6, what will the whole thing look like? I believe I covered this in a previous dev diary, but I'll summarize them here.

  • The 5 Character Aspects (Sage, Fool, Child, Poet, Warrior) will be consolidated into 3 (Sage, Poet, Rebel). The 10 Basic Moves and 5 Desperate Moves will likewise be reduced to 6 and 3 respectively.
  • A new Crew aspect, representing the group's overall cohesion, to replace the Faith mechanic, with new crew moves replacing the old faith moves.
  • An expanded Aspect Shifting system, where characters may shift stats between themselves, the crew, and the world.
  • An expansion of the Lights and Shadows to the Crew and World Aspects, bringing the light-shadow pairs up from 5 to 7.

I am most excited to release this update, and I hope you enjoy the changes to the system as much as I enjoyed thinking them over.

Pricing Change

Finances have been stretching thin recently, with rising prices for everything. While I am in no immediate financial emergency, that can easily and rapidly change.

So I would like to announce here that once v0.6 releases, Fire of Rebellion will transition from Pay What You Want to a Paid Game with Community Copies.

This transition was going to happen eventually, but it had originally been planned for when I released version 1.0. I don't want to price anyone out of my game, especially while its in development. Which is why I'd like feedback on your preferred price ranges and how I ought to plan the Community Copies.

Please let me know your thoughts in the comments.
